The Kill Order is the fourth book in James Dashner’s Maze Runner series, but it serves as the first prequel, set 13 years before the events of The Maze Runner.

The story follows Mark and Trina, two teens who survive a series of solar flares that devastate Earth. Alongside former soldiers Alec and Lana, they try to rebuild their lives in the ruins of civilization. But when a mysterious virus is released by airships—intended to control the population—it mutates into something far deadlier: the Flare.

As the infection spreads and society collapses, Mark and his friends embark on a desperate journey to uncover the truth behind the virus and its origins.
